Started playing tennis aged four on his own at home against the wall after watching his father, Jiri, a tennis coach, play…Mother, Irena, is a shoe company manager; has two sisters, Aneta and Natalie…Moved to Germany aged two and spent 10 years in German cities Wolfsburg and Göttingen, where his father Jiri, Sr. worked as a tennis coach, before moving back to Czech Republic. Went to German school until 6th grade and speaks fluent German...  

Idols growing up were Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych…Favourite surfaces are hard and clay courts, favourite shot is serve…If he wasn’t a tennis player, he would do something related to sports…Supports Slavia Prague football club…Fitness coach is Jozef Ivanko (since 2008).

Named ATP Star of Tomorrow Award presented by Emirates in November 2013…This new category, replacing the player-voted Newcomer of the Year, is awarded to the youngest player who finished in the Top 100 of Emirates ATP Rankings (as of 28 October)…Began season ranked outside the Top 250, broke into the Top 100 on 8 July – two days before his 20th birthday – and reached a career-high No. 78 by August. The Czech made his tour-level main draw debut as a qualifier at Roland Garros and also won three ATP Challenger Tour titles from five finals.
